Everything you need to get started
From your first appointment to ongoing care, here's what to expect, how to prepare, and where to find support.
New patients
Getting started with telehealth psychiatric care is straightforward. Here's how the process works from first contact to your initial appointment.
Request an appointment
Clients with active accepted insurance can book directly via Headway. For new or returning clients, please visit the Contact page on this website to submit an intake form, or call (563) 661-6760. Text messaging receives quicker replies.
Complete intake paperwork
Before your first visit you'll receive intake forms through the patient portal. These cover your health history, current concerns, medications, and consent documents. Please complete them at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Verify your technology
You'll need a device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer) and a stable internet connection. A private, quiet space is strongly recommended. The telehealth platform is HIPAA-compliant and requires no special software download.
Attend your initial visit
Initial appointments are typically 60 minutes. We'll review your history, discuss your current concerns and goals, and begin building a collaborative care plan. You're encouraged to bring a list of current medications and any questions you have.
Ongoing care
Follow-up appointments are typically 30 minutes and scheduled based on your individual needs, weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Between visits you can message through the patient portal for non-urgent questions.
What to expect
A collaborative relationship
You are the expert on your own experience. My role is to bring clinical knowledge and a curious, open perspective. Together we build a plan that fits your life, values, and goals.
Neurodivergent-affirming care
ADHD, autism, and other forms of neurodivergence are treated as natural variations in human experience, not deficits to be corrected. Accommodations for communication style and session structure are always available.
Whole-person perspective
Mental health doesn't exist in isolation. We may explore sleep, nutrition, movement, relationships, spirituality, and life context alongside medication. Integrative and functional medicine perspectives are woven into care when relevant.
Telehealth-native practice
All appointments are conducted via secure video. There's no commute, no waiting room, and no need to take time off work. You can attend from home, your car, or anywhere private and comfortable.
Frequently asked questions
